ENGLISH DEPARTMENT - HIGH SCHOOL

HIGH SCHOOL

The TED Alanya College High School English programme aims to teach our students English at an internationally recognised proficiency level. As English teachers, we try our hardest  to teach our students how to develop their creative and critical thinking skills. English is taught by both Turkish English and Native English teachers.

The preparation year, the year before embarking on High School, is co-ordinated between the English and German departments. We have a German preparatory class and an English preparatory class. These separate classes are designed to give more attention to one language than the other. However, both languages are studied in these classes, and by the end of Prep year, all students will be able to write, read, speak and listen in each language at a proficient level.

High School at TED Alanya is incredibly important. We must monitor  all of our students on their language skills before they are allowed to enter  High School. If a student falls below a certain level of proficiency, they will spend a year in Prep Class. If however, they are of a high proficiency level, they will be able to advance through to High School. This is applicable to the English language and the German Language – dependent on the student’s choice.

Before the academic year began, we gave our students an exam to see who could attend our High School, as opposed to attending the preparation year, in English. Those who passed this exam are now in 9th Grade English while those who showed a lower level of proficiency are attending the English Prep Class now. Both classes study 20 hours of English each week.

We expect them to participate in all class activities that include four basic but fundamental skills- reading, writing, listening and speaking- as well as using extensive knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. We, as teachers, use visual materials and other advance teaching systems as each class is equipped with the latest technology, including projectors and whiteboard technology.

Our aim at TED Alanya College High School is to prepare all of our students in English to be able to participate and pass international exams that are recognised by every university in the world. We will prepare them for exams such as  SLEP, FCE, and TOEFL etc. The reason for doing this is that we feel that we can help our students save time by passing the preparation year of most universities in Turkey, in which for a lot of people, causes a delay in their learning of University teaching due to their lack of English knowledge.

Our goal as teachers is simple as it is complex. We will strive to increase the efficient learning here at TED Alanya College High School and we will ensure each student leaves this school with enough English and German knowledge to succeed in life.
